Telecoms Cloud Limited Joins World Community Grid

Change the World… with Your Computer

Millions of personal computers sit idly on desks and in homes worldwide. As they wait, every hour, hundreds of people contract and die from infectious diseases. While computer owners run their screensavers, millions die from hunger, or environmental disasters devastate whole communities. What if each of the world’s estimated 1 billion computers could be linked to focus on humanity’s most pressing issues?

To make this vision a reality, Telecoms Cloud has become a partner of World Community Grid, joining the IBM Corporation and a group of more than 400 companies, associations, foundations, nonprofits, government agencies and academic institutions. Telecoms Cloud is encouraging members of the community to contribute their idle PC time to assist humanitarian research by joining World Community Grid at www.worldcommunitygrid.org and becoming a member of the Telecoms Cloud team.

World Community Grid uses grid technology to establish a permanent, flexible infrastructure that provides researchers with a readily-available pool of computational power that can be used to solve problems plaguing humanity. Grid technology joins together many individual computers, creating a large system with massive computational power that far exceeds the power of a few supercomputers. Importantly, World Community Grid is easy and safe to use.

To join, individuals should go to www.worldcommunitygrid.org and simply download and install a free, small software program on their computers. When idle, your computers request data from World Community Grid’s server. Computers then perform computations using this data, send the results back to the server and prompt it for a new piece of work.

“There are many issues in this world with far, far greater importance than the businesses that we run. Health and the wellbeing of the human race is certainly one of those things as we’re all sharing the same planet and we don’t (yet!) have anywhere else to go!”, said Paul Freeman-Powell, Chief Executive of the Telecoms Cloud. “The World Community Grid is a superb example of how businesses and technology can come together to do some real and tangible good in the world, and what’s more it’s not even difficult or time-consuming to participate. We’re proud to donate our un-used computing power to great causes such as searching for a cure for cancer, combating Ebola and understanding genetics more fully. I honestly can’t think of a better use for computing power.”

Today, hundreds of thousands of volunteers around the globe are donating some of the time when their computers are on but not in use, and World Community Grid is harnessing this power to help advance promising humanitarian research projects. Results on critical health issues have already been achieved, demonstrating World Community Grid’s potential to make significant inroads on a great range of future projects that can benefit the world.

You can start making a difference today. Please go to www.worldcommunitygrid.org and become a member today and then join our team.

By | Internet of Things, Press Releases | No Comments

Liverpool-based cloud telecoms specialists TELECOMS CLOUD welcome Dr. Simon Holgate to their Board as a Non-Executive Director

September 15, 2015

LIVERPOOL, UNITED KINGDOM – September 15, 2015 – Telecoms Cloud’s Board of Directors is today delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Simon Holgate as a Non-Executive Director. Dr. Holgate has over 10 years’ experience in research and innovations, particularly in his primary field of expertise; sea level science. His day-to-day job is that of Chief Scientist at Sea Level Research, where he has been credited with some truly world-changing scientific advancements, not least with his involvement in the aftermath of the Sumatra tsunami of Boxing Day 2004 where he developed the world’s first low-powered, real-time sea level monitoring system with global coverage and bi-directional communication, based on Inmarsat’s BGAN technology.

Simon has published a number of key academic papers and is an internationally recognised expert contributor to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. His experience and industrial links to the Internet of Things (IoT) makes his appointment at Telecoms Cloud a natural fit, and the company’s CEO, Paul Freeman-Powell, is excited to have Dr. Holgate on board:

Dr. Holgate understands the Internet of Things and is already leveraging its huge potential in the world right now. This is only the beginning, though, and I’m delighted to have a mind like Simon’s helping us to steer Telecoms Cloud in the right direction as we not only define the sector as it develops, but become the provider of choice for software developers who are building the future right now.

Speaking about his appointment, Dr. Holgate said:

I’m really excited to be working with Paul and the Telecoms Cloud team. Delivering telecoms systems in new and flexible ways is vital for the distributed sensors that make up the Internet of Things. Telecoms Cloud are building the infrastructure of the future. I want to be part of that.

Providing SMS & Fax Services to the NHS in England

By | Business Help, Telecoms Cloud News | No Comments

SMS and Fax Services provided to the NHS by Telecoms Cloud

In 2014, the Department of Health made a decision to withdraw central funding for NHSmail SMS and fax services from 1st October 2015. This means that from this date, trusts will need to ensure there is provision in place to use an alternative SMS provider to ensure that messages are still delivered to patients, unless their CCG has already made provision.

According to a business case document prepared by NHS England and the Department of Health, responsibility for providing SMS services will “cease to be a central concern” from 31 March, 2015. “After this health and care organisations must procure and fund their own service.”

SMS is considered a “Core IT service” for patients, who receive text messages for a range of purposes such as appointment reminders, test results and specialist information to those who have requested it, for example malaria information to patients travelling to high-risk zones.

Telecoms Cloud is already the provider of choice for many NHS trusts who rely on our SecureFax™ service for their daily operations whilst also increasing efficiency, enhancing security and dramatically reducing costs and wastage. With all our services available via 256-bit encrypted secure web portal as well as a REST API, we would urge all trusts who have not yet made provision for either their Fax or SMS services, or any who would like to receive a better service at lower cost, to get in touch to explore how we can help.

There are many reasons to choose Telecoms Cloud, namely:

  • We’re already the provider of choice for many NHS trusts and CCGs
  • Secure, 256-bit encrypted services accessible via web portal or REST API
  • Telecoms Cloud is run by a team of expert engineers with over 20 years’ experience of telecoms, web and IT, who have designed and built our services and infrastructure to meet the specific needs of the NHS and other healthcare organisations, constantly evolving and improving based on requests and feedback from existing customers
  • ISO9001 certified company, with all data originating inside the EU kept inside the EU in ISO27001 and PCI DSS compliant data centre facilities
  • SS7 connections into all the UK network operators, and SMS deliverability to over 800 mobile networks worldwide

Crosby Communications merges with Telecoms Cloud

Crosby Communications PLC

Crosby Communications PLC

CROSBY COMMUNICATIONS becomes part of the TELECOMS CLOUD family, bringing with it nearly 20 years of heritage, expertise and success in the international telecommunications market

July 1, 2014

Telecoms Cloud sees its market position further strengthened by teaming up with Crosby Communications, a key player in the telecoms industry for nearly 20 years, to combine resources and work together to realise Telecoms Cloud’s ambition to be a pioneer in Telecoms APIs.

LIVERPOOL, UNITED KINGDOM – July 1, 2014 – Telecoms Cloud Limited today announced that it is merging operations with Crosby Communications, bringing together under one roof a wealth of heritage, experience and expertise combined with innovative and cutting-edge development in the cloud computing and communications space.

“As one combined force, the two companies equal more than the sum of their parts so it makes perfect sense to combine and grow as one unit going forward.” said Paul Freeman-Powell, CEO of Telecoms Cloud. “Moreover, the wealth of expertise along with technology that Crosby have developed over the last 17 years means we can further strengthen the Telecoms Cloud network to build an even better platform for our customers and our customers’ customers.”

“We’re really excited by this development and look forward to a very strong future working together.”

Crosby Communications were the first company in the UK to offer call recording at the network level, and their flagship call recording application, Record Your Call, has been bedded into the Telecoms Cloud platform for some time via mutual co-operation. With the merging of the two companies’ operations, the Telecoms Cloud API will see its call recording capabilities further strengthened.

Matt Wilson, Chairman of both companies, explained another key benefit brought about by the merger: “Crosby Communications has developed a hugely successful call analytics platform, used by many blue-chip companies to track their marketing, plan the running of their call centres and even determine poll and competition results. The technology previously developed by Crosby Communications is now working to strengthen the all-new Colossus call analytics platform within Telecoms Cloud, available to SMEs via our branded websites as well as consumable by developers via our API.”

No customers will experience any downtime or loss of service as a result of this merger. The Crosby Communications brand will now be phased out, marking the end of an era and waving a fond farewell after 17 years, in favour of the Telecoms Cloud brand. However, customers will still see a homage to Crosby within Telecoms Cloud’s flagship fax service, named Crosby Fax. One of the company’s most successful brands, Crosby Fax has grown to be among the largest online fax providers in the UK with many high-profile customers in both the public and private sectors depending on it for their critical day-to-day operations.

Crosby Fax’s SecureFax product has enabled the NHS, among others, to dramatically reduce costs whilst increasing efficiency and adding enhanced security to their procedures, essential for compliance with Information Governance regulations. More recently, they have launched WhiteFax, which prevents data breaches caused by dialling wrong numbers on physical fax machines by routing all outgoing calls via the Crosby Fax platform where numbers are screened against an approved white list.

Telecoms Cloud operates a set of multi-disciplinary structures, policies, procedures, processes and controls implemented to manage information at an enterprise level, supporting its immediate and future regulatory, legal, risk, environmental and operational requirements.
